Netscape is dead!

Can anybody believe this? I sure couldn’t when I read that on operawatch but it’s true, Netscape is dead and they are saying mainly 2 things:

Support with security patches etc will stay till February 2008 and they also point out that Netscape is nothing else than a firefox with netscape skin.

If you think of the suite Netscape was then you most likely would wish to take a look at SeaMonkey which continues where the Mozilla Suite/Netscape stopped.

The Netscape crew wrote:

“While internal groups within AOL have invested a great deal of time and energy in attempting to revive Netscape Navigator, these efforts have not been successful in gaining market share from Microsoft’s Internet Explorer. Recently, support for the Netscape browser has been limited to a handful of engineers tasked with creating a skinned version of Firefox with a few extensions.

AOL’s focus on transitioning to an ad-supported web business leaves little room for the size of investment needed to get the Netscape browser to a point many of its fans expect it to be. Given AOL’s current business focus and the success the Mozilla Foundation has had in developing critically-acclaimed products, we feel it’s the right time to end development of Netscape branded browsers, hand the reins fully to Mozilla and encourage Netscape users to adopt Firefox.”

Good thing is that they are honestly explain everything and suggest users to move to Firefox instead (I hope some of them will move to Opera instead πŸ˜‰ ).

Sold my webcams, now got Skype HQ video

Over Christmas, I decided to sell my old webcams (A Logitech QuickCam Ultra Vision and a Logitech QuickCam Orbit MP.

I decided to go for the Logitech QuickCam Sphere AF which is the direct successor of the MP so it has the same cool face tracking and all the other stuff but additionally also auto focus and the ability to make high quality video in connection with Skype 3.6.

The advantage of the QuickCam 11.5 software is also that it doesn’t automagically activate RightLight2 which causes a huge delay destroying fluent movements of 25-30 fps the Carl Zeiss optic can do. In 100% of all cases, RightLight(1) is just enough and you can have a nice picture. above one in bad light condition as an example!

Choose your identity for commenting!

Recently I have complained about removing the possibility to mention your blog’s URL when commenting on Blogger.

Now, they have changed the system again. To the better!

Because now you can choose from multiple login providers to use.

See more info at Blogger Buzz.

What I find really cool now is, that they even support OpenID now! πŸ™‚

It’s Chris…err… hoax time again!: Orkut …

….will close all your accounts? Doubt it! We all know such hoaxes messages and everytime they return in various languages slighty modified!

This time it’s Orkut’s turn:

(Source: Martin’s Scrapbook).

“FROM THE DIRECTOR OF ORKUT,EVERYBODY SORRY FOR THEINTERRUPTION BUT ORKUT IS CLOSING THE SYSTEM DOWN BECAUSE TOO MANY BOTTERS ARE TAKING UP ALL THE NAMES, WE ONLY HAVE 57 NAMES LEFT,
IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO CLOSE YOUR ACCOUNT, DONT SEND THIS MESSAGE, IF YOU WANT
TOKEEP YOUR ACCOUNT ,SEND THIS MESSAGE TO EVERYONE ON YOUR LIST.
THIS IS NOT A JOKE, YOU’LL BE SORRY IF YOU DONT SEND IT. THANKS DIRECTOR OF ORKUT, TIM BUISKI. WHOEVER DOESNT SEND THIS MESSAGE, YOUR ACCOUNT WILL BE DEACTIVATED AND IT WILL COST YOU $ 10.00 A MONTH TO USE IT..”

As a rule:

1) Ignore!
2) Don’t spread!
3) Officials would use email to inform you or announce it on their hoempages just in case.

4) If they would act in the way as claimed, who would use their services again?

Think about it!

Mister Wong’s Logo Contest – The results are there!

Mr Wong, the German online bookmark organizer asked me to announce the following:

Mr Wong was forced to remove the charming Asian guy mascot when it launched its English version of the service, because some users of the service considered a Chinese person as a logo a racistical act.

Feedburner Support after Google’s acquisition

As experienced often, after Yahoo or Google took over a business, the support of those is getting down. Another proof I found today at Feedburner.

All you get is a form that looks like this:

Missio impossible to ask a question and get help. However, on the right handed side there is a Spanish email address which I sent my problem to and I really received an automatic reply from Feedburners ENGLISH support department including a tracking ID to my inquery! Will be very exciting to see whether they are really going to answer me!
