Johnny Casteaway screensaver

Back in 1992, there was that Johnny Casteaway screensaver. Of a poor fellow stranded on a lonely isle. And it was fun to watch him doing all kinds of funny things!

Unfortuantely I remember that for many of us, it was also just a bit boring, since most of us did not see all the scenes which the screenshot offered or even didn’t know about it!

Recently, I luckily found the Johnny Castaway Homepage which reveals almost all scenes in this great freeware screensaver! They even offer a version for Windows XP for download!!! πŸ™‚

Well done, Sierra! πŸ™‚

Themes and Windows XP X64

Maybe some of you have heard of the uxtheme.dll. That’s the file that adds the abilty to apply nice Windows XP themes. For being able to do that, it has to be replaced with a patched version of the file.

For a long time, there was no patcher for Windows XP X64, yesterday I found that meanwhile the UXTheme MultiPatcher 5.0 can do it.

Interstingly, many websites only refer to the old version 4.0 which is kind of sad since the 5.0 version is surprior.

And it works as you can see at my screenshot showing the Crystal Theme under Windows XP X64. Unfortunately it’s not shipped with version 5.0 of the patcher, so if you want it, email me and I will send the Crystal theme to you! πŸ™‚

EDIT: On some Windows XP 32 bit systems, it will detected as Windows NT. In this case you need to use the version 4.0 of the patcher.

Google Mars!

I found this here in the Everything In Its Place blog.

For all who thought Google Earth was cool with all its improvements over the time, then you missed Google Mars! πŸ™‚

It’s based on Google Maps.

If you want you can see, i.e. check out a 3-D fly-through movie of Valles Marineris made using Google Mars data here.

Also, I found here at the Anything Else blog that Google Earth is planed for Linux too now! πŸ™‚

Opera 9.0 Beta 2 is out

The new Opera 9.0 Beta 2 is out!

There are not much changes regarding new features, so it’s for its most part just a bugfix release as one can see in the changelog.

The following bugs I noticed got fixed:

-The Pac Man emoticon caused an XML phrasing error after the email got sent.
-The Opera 9.0 Beta 1 regularly crashed for me.

Also new is the new Widget Management which I personally don’t like πŸ™

There are rumours that the final version is exspected for June! πŸ™‚

SkypeOut: Free calls to all landlines and mobile phones within the US and Canada

This has been for a little while now, but I anyway want to report about it.

“The Whole World Can Talk For Free”. Now this can be taken literally when it comes to USA & Canada, because Skype announced Free calls to all landlines and mobile phones within the US and Canada.

So let’s quote them a bit:

If you’re in the US or Canada, you can use SkypeOut to call any landline or mobile number in both the USA and Canada for free.

If you’re in the US or Canada and calling any other country, OR if you’re in any other country and calling landline or mobile numbers in the US or Canada, the standard SkypeOut rates apply.

Of course, Skype-to-Skype calls continue to be globally free, so no changes there.

See also the campaign FAQ.

Isn’t this great? Unfortunately I am not living in USA or Canada :'(
