Some minutes ago I received an email congratulating me on my great blog – from Amy Liu of Blogged – find better blogs.

Skype has released a beta version for their mobile client version.

User feedback isn’t so positive and according to various sources the client is based on the 3 Skypephone‘s client which is considered unusable for many.

Desipite being officially released to the public on April, 29th, since a few days it is already for download at serveral sources. For example here.

The Opera Desktop Team has released Opera 9.5 Beta which is probably the worst Beta ever, because the email client is majorily broken for many because of one serious bug listed (and unfortunately experienced by myself) in the Known Issues section of the Release Notes which reads:

“[Bug 325677] POP mail download doesn’t work on web.de (and some other servers)”

.

My serious recomandation is to not download it and better wait for a nicer release!

Betas with such major known issues shouldn’t be released to the public on a dedicated site, especially not without listing or linking to the Known Issues!

There have been several speculations about how to firmware update the Ipevo SOLO and shame on Ipevo there is no manual for this on their English homepage and shame on Ipveo but in half a dozen emails asking how to do this, Ipveo didn’t manage to explain to me the exact procedure (instead they asked me what software version I have, wanted me to download an alternative firmware and their 3rd suggestion was to factory reset the phone!

With the wonderful help of Howard Chang of Amperor Direct, I can present you English instructions.

Here is what he said (and it works!)

“[18.04.2008 21:20:32] Howard Chang says: Please go download it, unzip to an USB drive, plug the USB drive into Solo, and go Menu>settings>general>software updates

[18.04.2008 21:21:08] Howard Chang says: You will see a question pop up on the screen asking if you want to update the system.”

Every Ipveo Solo owner should apply the update, as it fixes quite some nasty bugs! and adds compatibility for the WiFi Network Adapater!

If you are having Windows Vista X64 and you are using the lovely RealTek AC97 on-board sound chip, then better use the older drivers from their website which are A4.04 2008/2/1 instead of the newer drivers Windows Update suggests to you (from 2008/4/4) since those have a bug in the 5.1 mode that causes the middle and the bass box to switch and the “swap bass/center speaker” speaker option doesn’t work!

From now on it’s no longer required to use a hack for Shockwave to work in Windows Vista. Infact, Adobe has updated the Shockwave player to work in Vista now.
