Roughly a year ago, when many blog related exchanges died, something new appeared and rumbled the house: BlogDumps. Now, they are back with yet another blog related project; Blogdumps Video! The duo Trina and Paul not only offer books, coffee, blog link exchanges but also video uploading now!

Again it’s the Pisstakers explaining to us why BlogDumps Video is better than YouTube and Revver.

In an email to the duo I wrote: “Man, I really hope you won’t
end up like YouTube who are too busy to troubleshoot their user’s accounts and
reply to emails”

Good luck to them and thanks for all the support of the blogsphere with great enthuasm and care.

My blog no longer uses Technorati for the categorization of my blog posts.

I have replaced the search engine from Technorati’s search (which got messed up and they probably would rather die than fixing it) with the way better working Blogger search engine. Apart from the “ICQ” categories, the search results are displayed and compiled in the same window on the fly. (Pretty much like using labels).

A quick test of all categories turned out that they display fine – if you notice any disturbances or something you don’t like, please let me know.

Technorati has something in common with Orkut: blind like a mole, and speedy like a snail. A good portion of emails are ignored and never replied to or they simply cannot help you. In rare cases, when they are good mooded or have a very exceptional bright day, they might get back to you and actually try and successfuly help you (whoo-hoo!). Anyway, I am done with Technorati forever and ever.

Swicki is a lot nicer as Ed – the Pisstaker already found out. okay, granted, once in a while an email gets slipped through too but 99% of them are replied to nicely and helpful and things got worked out (however, Opera still troubles them, please fix soon!). Most of my emails got reply by Trini from Swicki, a thanks to Trini from this place to her! 🙂

Granted, Technorati and Orkut got a support forum to be able to manage the huge amount of emails. Did any of them succeeed? No they didn’t!.

The (Old) RTX USB Cordless DualPhone receives firmware/suite update again.
According to the changelog, it fixes primarily Windows Vista related bugs. So if your phone stopped working under Vista lately, try it with this one!

The fixes in suite version 2.37 in detail:

-Now using InnoSetup 5.20. Restart no longer required after installation.
-Changes priority of sound and softphone status messages.
-Vista sound devices: Automatically show hidden devices.
-Added new status message for different skype/dualphone Windows user accounts.
-Added new status message for device vs. PC software mismatch

Important: please assure that you download and install the correct suite (USA/NON-USA!)!

Microsoft even released more updates!

The weird thing about this is the Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 1.1 Service Pack 1 which is an update to the also released Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 for Windows Vista.

Windows Update displays it as a critical update and once it has been downloaded and installed, Windows Update says “Some updates were not installed. Not neccessary: 1 update” If I take a look in the update history it says: “installed successfully” how strange is that?

Anyway, also released got a new version of the compatibility, reliability, and stability update for Windows Vista

Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 is an old thing (and Vista comes with 3.0 included) however some programs and plugins still require it like e.g. the Quelle MCE plugin (which however stucks while installing and so doesn’t work on Vista).
Maybe this is the reason why Microsoft decided to “release” the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 also for Vista (i.e. it is the same one from 2004 but it never appeared when you ran Windows Update, except since today!

Furthermore Microsoft released the long promised remaining 18 language packs and also a few hotfixes for all X64 Windows versions (XP, 2003 Sever and Vista X64!).

Recently, they also released a fix to the problem that Excel 2007 can’t calculate.

So a lot of updates to install for Vista and 64bit lovers, so enjoy! 🙂

BlogRush has recently deleted over *10,000* blogs from their network because they didn’t pass their quality exspections.

This is what I received today by email from them:

Am I the only one who screams “Hooray, there it is again!” when he realizes old bugs from Windows XP are back in Windows Vista?

One I remember very well is the disappearing drives in Windows after installing certain CD-ROM tools.

And thanks to Bob we know that the solution also works in Windows Vista solution:

2. Enter REGEDIT and press enter
3. When REGEDIT starts, open up the following folders

4. After clicking on {4D36E965-E325 -11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} you should see two settings on the right-hand side:
“Upperfilters”
“Lowerfilters”
Click on each of them, press DELETE and click YES.

Then close REGEDIT, shutdown & restart your PC”

Skype is lately under attack again. Just recently, a worm affected Skype for Windows users and now a Skype Extra which claims to be a security tool tries to steal password (login) data. Villu Arak writes in Skype Heartbeat:

“404-SkypeDefenderSetup.exe is classified as an Infostealer, that is, a Trojan horse program that attempts to steal sensitive information such as login credentials.

When executed it displays a confirmation window with the following text, “Skype-Defender(TM) Installed! Please login to your account to apply new plugins”.

When the user clicks the OK button, the malware displays what looks like a Skype login screen, but which has a different-looking sign-in button.

When the user enters the Skype username and password, the malware displays a message saying that the name and password were unrecognized.

The malware collects the entered Skype username and password, as well as all usernames and passwords saved in Internet Explorer, and sends them over to a website that collects this stolen data.

To remove the malware, please update your anti-virus software. At this time, we have notified F-Secure, TrendMicro, Symantec, WebSense, and FaceTime Security Labs. For manual removal it is enough to delete the 65404-SkypeDefenderSetup.exe file. “

Personally, I love the game Extras but I would not download and install just any random plugins, also “SkypeDefender”sounds weird and if Skype has a defender program, it would probably have been published on the Skype blogs or in the Extras panel of Skype!

According to several sources, MySpace users will be able to communicate with Skype userrs (enhanced features in MySpace that are related to Skype). This will also include the MySpace IM client.

Not included will be apan, China and Taiwan as read here. Despite the leadership change, Ebay doesn’t plan to change the strategy of Skype, that is to gain as much users as possible!
