Opera 9 Technical Preview 2 is out

The incredible finally has happened! Opera 9 Technical Preview 2 is out!

After waiting for 4 months for it, it’s finally here!

And it’s amazing! 🙂

It has a lot of new features, one of them are Opera Widgets, as one can see at the top of this blog entry! 🙂

Of course they also display outside of Opera! 🙂

Let’s quote them a bit about what theese are:

“Opera Widgets are small web applications run directly on a user’s desktop. With Opera Widgets you can quickly write small, focused applications that perform useful tasks. They can interact with online services such as news feeds, dictionaries or search engines.”

Also new is, that you can see prevews of tabs on mouseover:

Also great is the news displaying of M2:

On the first spot, one can see that the date is now on the right side of the screen, but on the 2nd spot we can see that the from/to fields are buttons with special functions:

Really handy! 🙂

And, Taddaa!!; the BitTorrent client is in again! 😀

From ZoneAlarm to McAfee Firewall! :)

Update: July, 28th, 2018: I was told Outpost is no more, so in case you wanna know what the current best firewalls are, here is a nice compassion: https://www.comparitech.com/antivirus/best-free-antivirus/

A new firewall! Yes! After having switched antivirusprg, I switched from ZoneAlarm to McAfee Firewall which I found for free on a PC magazine CD! 🙂

And it’s great! It’s even better than Outpost I think because you do not just allow or disallow traffic by default but you allow the first caused the traffic only at first (so same IP address or data transfer way, e.g.).
If the same prg wants access to the internet again but by doing it a different way, it will warn about this and offer to either allow all actions to the internet or just the momentary caused one and keeping an eye on it to learn what kind of further communication the prg in question does!
Unfortunately the Visual Trace crashes on all PCs I tried, but well, it’s not that bad, not really something that makes me cry! 🙂

Slow support wants to become fast!

Technorati, the blog crawler service is famous for its incredible slow support. Afer over half a year, they announced that they plan to change this. Wow, I am amazed they really did that. I already gave it up! 😀

well, at least after months, my displaying error of Technorati in my blog got fixed with their help, I just needed patience for a couple of months.
But this happens often with huge companies, they are unable to proccess all support requests because of very few workers!

Good customer support costs money!…

Aerogram from Cuba!

Incredible! I have received the first aerogram in my live, ever! (Incase you wonder what an “aerogram” is, please check this!)

Since I do not know Spanish, I first thought it was promotion for Africa or something! 😀 Until I found “aerogram” on it!

Yep, this one is from Cuba, and it seems to be quite unique, only 500.000 copies and cannot be found somewhere at Google Image Search! 🙂

Word Defination: RETRO

We all know it – since the end of 2004, the media and industry is surfing on the so called “Retro Wave”. Suddenly stuff from the 80’s got cool and hip and people enjoy spending time with nostalgia.

Now, retro computer games. You see it a lot on TV all around the globe, on the internet, etc with a lot of screenshots, videos and reports.

Now, did you ever question yourself: “Gosh, how I was able to adore such games and find their graphic and sounds excellent and amazing?”

Word Defination: RETRO

How to do it retro:

1) Don’t use the real machine, use an emulator (they always have much worse graphic and sound than the original machines!).

2) In a time line of 1983-1993, take some games from 1983 as example – the latest games released for that machine are too good for a report!

3) Your 1983 game running on emulator with bad sound and graphic emulation is the benchmark for the technical ability of this retro computer system, perfect!

4) PCs and their screen signals have not the PAL & NTSC blur that makes colours looking fluently and graphics smooth – result: the graphics look all blocky on our PC screen in the emulator.

5) Of course, we don’t use a 14″ CRT monitor, we use a 19″ CRT, result: even more blocky.

6) That is not yet enough retro! To make the already blocky² graphics even more blocky in the way that we zoom in pretty much! Now, we see – what was supposed to be a tiny pixel now appears to our fellow retro report watchers as a huge block! Ugly, isn’t it? You can see an example clikcing on the pixel link above, so it works!

JOB DONE! Welcome to the retro feeling! =)

So keep in mind, what you see in the media is never ever the real quality and ability of the old computer systems they want to represent to you!

Internet Filters

We all know that certain countries filter the internet, now Google agreed on etablishing a new local search engine applying a filter.

(As some of you probably know, www.google.com is filtered, www.amnestyinternational.com is filtered, www.blogspot.com is filtered. (so no way to visit my blog)!).

Interestingly, the filtered internet does not disturb any of my contacts. Well, but it would disturb _ME_!
