New ICQ Alpha Client Out

Thanks to GL in my forum for the news! πŸ™‚

Finally, it happened, a New ICQ Alpha Client is out, but it isn’t called ICQ, it’s called ComPad and it’s only available for certain countries.
I can confirm that for people from Israel and Germany, the download does not work, you get an error message.
People from Brazil can download it.

Once installed, people from blocked countries cannot sign up either.
And currently, people from countries that can sign up are faced by an error message “Please try again later” at the time of this writing.

If anybody has got more luck please post it in my forum! πŸ™‚

Garbage collection not working

Verdi does a walkout, a walkout of the public service. Originally it’s not part of my blog postings, but it’s strange seeing the garbage collection not working, everywhere rubbish bags on the streets.

It’s a special picture, and I am sure it will somehow start to smell soon :-/

Well this walkout started because of the plan to rise the weekly workhours from 38 to 40 again

Opera 9 Technical Preview 2 is out

The incredible finally has happened! Opera 9 Technical Preview 2 is out!

After waiting for 4 months for it, it’s finally here!

And it’s amazing! πŸ™‚

It has a lot of new features, one of them are Opera Widgets, as one can see at the top of this blog entry! πŸ™‚

Of course they also display outside of Opera! πŸ™‚

Let’s quote them a bit about what theese are:

“Opera Widgets are small web applications run directly on a user’s desktop. With Opera Widgets you can quickly write small, focused applications that perform useful tasks. They can interact with online services such as news feeds, dictionaries or search engines.”

.

Also new is, that you can see prevews of tabs on mouseover:

Also great is the news displaying of M2:

On the first spot, one can see that the date is now on the right side of the screen, but on the 2nd spot we can see that the from/to fields are buttons with special functions:

Really handy! πŸ™‚

And, Taddaa!!; the BitTorrent client is in again! πŸ˜€

The list of new features in Opera 9 Technical Preview 2 can be found here

Also new, is the fresh opened homepage called Opera Labs! Have a look and enjoy! πŸ™‚

From ZoneAlarm to McAfee Firewall! :)

Update: July, 28th, 2018: I was told Outpost is no more, so in case you wanna know what the current best firewalls are, here is a nice compassion:Β https://www.comparitech.com/antivirus/best-free-antivirus/

A new firewall! Yes! After having switched antivirusprg, I switched from ZoneAlarm to McAfee Firewall which I found for free on a PC magazine CD! πŸ™‚

And it’s great! It’s even better than Outpost I think because you do not just allow or disallow traffic by default but you allow the first caused the traffic only at first (so same IP address or data transfer way, e.g.).
If the same prg wants access to the internet again but by doing it a different way, it will warn about this and offer to either allow all actions to the internet or just the momentary caused one and keeping an eye on it to learn what kind of further communication the prg in question does!
Unfortunately the Visual Trace crashes on all PCs I tried, but well, it’s not that bad, not really something that makes me cry! πŸ™‚

Slow support wants to become fast!

Technorati, the blog crawler service is famous for its incredible slow support. Afer over half a year, they announced that they plan to change this. Wow, I am amazed they really did that. I already gave it up! πŸ˜€

well, at least after months, my displaying error of Technorati in my blog got fixed with their help, I just needed patience for a couple of months.
But this happens often with huge companies, they are unable to proccess all support requests because of very few workers!

Good customer support costs money!…
