Not a Phish!

I have learned once again, don’t do critical stuff right before Christmas.

The story: I have received another one of such gif spams saying “Please confirm your bank account’s details” and have forwarded it to phish[at]phishtank.com
Unfortunately however, It was a gif phish and somehow they have used the wrong URL by their automatic system (probably taken from my email signature).

Better typing it into the Phishtank system manually in the future…

Sorry 🙁

Another headset for the RTX Dualphone!

Since the Jabra headset that works is no longer produced, I have asked RTX for another one. They have replied to me:

“The Danish webshop www.ipguide.dk sells a headset from http://www.globesystems.dk with an impedance of 32 Ohms – it will work perfectly”

Hope this will help anybody! 🙂

Netgear SPH101 and browser login support…

After my previous post about the new Skype standalone wi-fi phone allowing to use Boingo services, I have asked Netgear regarding this:

The SPH101 Skype Phone isn’t made for that.
You can use this product in every wireless network you have access to.

WEB authorization isn’t and won’t be possible.

Sincerely,
Netgear Support

What a pity! 🙁

ICQ-4u has got a new homepage!

ICQ-4u, known for its archive of old ICQ versions and a skin gallery, has been relaunched and re-designed!

Here is what they write:

“Welcome to the new and improved version of ICQ-4U.com, the oldest ICQ file repository on the internet.

With this update the file repository will now be partly user driven. This means that our users can upload their skin files to the file repository or submit other content such as links more easily.

At the moment we are adding more content, articles and files for you, so take a look around.

Please also stop by our forums and join the discussions about new ICQ versions or ICQ customization tricks.

skySpace

The following post is not from me, but written by skySpace in a blog post comment, for those who are interested in it:

Skype™ launches pioneering social networking software skySpace™ to dramatically expand its revenue opportunities

SAN FRANCISCO, USA , December 14. Today Skype launched skySpace, the only media-centric social networking software. skySpace will multiply the volume and quality of information shared among Skype’s 136 million users, creating a new market category.

skySpace empowers Skype users to tell stories by sharing their photos, video, audio, and documents via their skySpace homepage—either privately or to the community at large. Users personalize their skySpace homepage with backgrounds, images, layouts, borders, and fonts—eliciting a torrent of conversations from anyone who visits their home. skySpace users are rewarded with feedback on the number of visitors and their identities.

Skype’s parent company eBay sees the synergy, “Skype’s most interesting capability is the application to application messaging, which enables a new class of distributed software like the skySpace peer-to-peer browser” said Distinguished Engineer Adrian Cockroft of the eBay Research Labs.

skySpace is the brainchild of Argentina-born Pablo Bertorello, who affirms “skySpace is the first social network for Skype, christening new business models around user-generated content: artistic personalization, original products, and third-party add-ons like printing, fax, and backup.” Skype, having Certified skySpace, now distributes it as Premium software, “skySpace is an interesting application that can power user adoption, usage, and revenue. I am really looking forward to seeing how users take advantage of ‘Extras’ such as skySpace,” stated the Director of Skype’s software partnership initiative, Paul Amery.

“This is a brilliant play by Skype,” said Bill Campbell, Technical Editor of the Skype Journal.

About Bertorello™, Inc.

Bertorello’s mission is to aggressively introduce disruptive innovations like skySpace, make friends by sharing™. skySpace is the only social network for Skype, the Internet communication company. skySpace is available in 27 languages and is already used in practically every country on Earth. Bertorello strives to live up to its values: innovation, excellence, team spirit, audacious risk taking, and results. Bertorello is funded by Silicon Valley veterans, is cash positive, and debt-free.

PhishTank in Opera 9.10 announcements

Opera 9.10 has been released yesterday inofficial.

Today, the Opera Staff announced it and mentioned PhishTank Fraud Protection and its community.
Opera & OpenDNS (PhishTank) also published a co-op press release.

Last but not least, PhishTank welcomed Opera in a blog post pointing out, that sites rated as fraud by their community won’t be visitable by Opera 9.10 users!

This makes the Opera browser the most phishing secure browser, combining two technologies:

PishTank( OpenDNS) and TrustWatch (GeoTrust).

Jaanus’ comment on Skype Management changes

Jaanus Kase commented on Skype’s recent. management changes.

he hints that this step will lead to some more or less major changes in 2007. Leading to some plans being dropped, others being picked up (or something like that):

There will surely be changes in 2007 about what Skype does and does not do. We have said at various times that we will do a lot of different things. Some of those will not happen, while others will happen that we haven’t yet spoken of. One thing is for sure — we will remain true to our original commitment of letting the whole world talk for free, while adding further value with our paid products.

This leaves room for a lot of speculation.
