I recently bought myself Simon The Sorcerer 3D German PC-CD. Since I knew the English version which ran smoothly on Windows XP as far as I could tell, the German version is a true nightmare!

While the English version just has a tiny flicker on the lower right area in cut scene sequences (which is ATI driver related, I think!), the German version is a paradise of errors and glitches.

There is that MultiLanguage Patch. The English version works with it, the German version does not. Means it crashes with “Simon3D.EXE has enountered an error and has to close”. OK, so I decided to uninstall the game and reinstall it again, suddenly there are heavy sound bugs in the game (repeatings, skippings, etc). Nothing helped, but recovering Windows XP from a previous state by using a system restore point!

Then in the game’s book navigation, the mouse pointer falls out of sync with the graphic from the game, means if you click wrong, you suddenly move something on your Windows Desktop.

Rarely, the game switches from full screen into boxed mode without any reason.

On first startup, sometimes it won’t accept CD1 eventhough it’s inserted in the drive.

There are heavy polygon graphic flickers.

And the German manual is the best!

everybody seems to be in that Ajax thing, lately. (Since it’s cool, means it shows you the results in real time while you are typing!).

So, I found by accident an Ajax WhoIs database. Unfortunately it is not as good as my prefered one; Cool WhoIs.

In August last year I found and activated word verfication for comments and Now, it’s also available for hearing impaired people!

However their Blogger Buzz post about it is wrong! The audio files are not played in the language you choosed at your blogspot’s preferences but in the language of your browser’s language (i.e. the language you set in its preferences)!

Anyway, it’s a great thing! 🙂

Finally, after Partly closing the ICQ Ticket Center, it got completely closed now as you can see on the screenshot above.
Furthermore, commenting to the individual Knowledge Base articles is no longer possible!

Flick mania today! The 3rd entry about Flickr! 🙂 I found something nice on the //beconfused blog here that is called “Spell with Flickt! It allows to spell words using images from Flickr!

I found something really cool in this post from Pketh. It’s called Flickr Album and allows to create shiny photo albums with a great turn page effect like in real life of cour Flickr photostream! 🙂

Due to pure accident pure accident, I found a replacement for Flickr’s Zeitgeist, which I had to remove due to serious problems). The replacement is called Flickr Badge and it’s exactly the same 🙂 I think they just renamed it from “Zeitgeist” into “Badge” with the difference, that there is now a pure HTML version of it, so no more virues (because it ran some scripts).

At least I found none! 🙂

Yesterday, I have received finally a reply from ICQ to my complaint letter about the death of the ICQ Support and Focus Group!

I do not want to quote it completely due to various reasons.
Here is just a small snippet with the most important things:

The ICQ support center, which is indeed a valuable tool for our users, was monitored in the last few months and based on the traffic, topics and questions was modified with relevant FAQ’s that should provide all the answers to our users questions regarding our services.

The ICQ Focus Group was never shut down and in fact we have just uploaded a new survey regarding the 2Way SMS service. The Focus Group wasn’t updated lately due to the re-design of our new Web site but we have plans to upgrade it and make it a better tool for our users to post their opinions and share with us their views of ICQ current and future developments.

which basicly tells us: ICQ Support keeps being closed but ICQ Focus Group will return! So, I will start to complain a lot about the missing ICQ support once it’s back! 🙂

Repedeately, I have blocked about German ICQ hoaxes, the ICQ Lies Collection and just today, I found in the Expert Board here another intesting website mentioned, the Hoaxbusters which seem to collect all hoaxes around. Enjoy!
