New SIM (0.9.4 RC1) is out!

After 3 years of halt, the best ICQ clone for Linux (& Windows/MacOSX) is back and even with a new homepage!

As you can see, the ICQ part of this multi-protocol messanger looks like an almost 100% copy of ICQ 2003b or older! 🙂

The only very big disadvantage is, that it still has no language selector, so I had to rename a language file so I can use the English version (which is what I prefer).

Opera 9 Beta 1 is out!

After a lot of weekly builds, there finally it is; Opera 9 Beta 1!

The most noticeable changes are the widgeds being now accessable at the top at the title bar through a button, the IMAP client still being work in progress, a lower build number, and widgeds getting a seperated task in the taskbar if pinned (one thing you won’t loke once you have a lot of them open at the same time :-/ ).

strong passwords

ICQ/ComPad has finally a site (only works in MSIE) that explains what normal and strong passwords are.

This seems to be another step towards informing users after putting a warning on the ICQ site login window.

It reads:

A strong password is a password that is difficult for others to guess or for automatic programs to guess.
Some sites, ComPad one of them, require you to select a normal or strong password for better security.

There are 4 types of characters your ComPad password can contain:

1. Uppercase letters. For example: A, B, T.
2. Lowercase letter. For example: a, b, t.
3. Numbers. For example: 1,2,3.
4. Symbols. Allowed symbols: ! @ # $ % ^ & * ( )

A normal password must:

– Contain 6-8 characters, with at least 2 types of characters.

– Contain at least 2 types of characters. It must contain one character of any of the types in the middle of the password.

For example:
beDRoom – good
BedrooM – not good
Bedroom – not good

– Not contain your first, last, display name, email address or ComPad ID.

* A strong password is just like a normal one, only it must:
– Contain 6 characters, with at least 3 types of characters
or 7-8 characters, with at least 2 types of characters.

New ICQ Toolbar/Search Plugin

Together with the Relaunch of the ICQ homepage, the ICQ Team released 2 new versions of the ICQ Toolbar: A seperated download for Windows 98 and a ICQ SearchPlugin for Firefox.

According to the file name, the difference between both ICQ Toolbar versions is, that the Windows Windows 98/ME version uses ANSI while the Windows 2000/XP version uses UNIcode

Zopaloola finally also in German ICQ 5!

After almost 4 months, Zopaloola seems to be finally available for the German ICQ 5, too!

I read here, that Zoopaloola is finally available in German ICQ 5.

Can anybody tell me whether it’s also available in the other localized ICQ 5 language versions?

Thanks in advance! 😎
