More SkypeIn countries!

After SkypeIn for the Dominican Republic, they have added now 3 more countries: Chile, New Zealand and Romania.

Villu Arak writes furthermore:

SkypeIn numbers are now available in 18 countries. Here’s a quick refresher: When you have a SkypeIn number, your friends who don’t have Skype can call a regular phone number. And you will receive the call on your computer or any other piece of gear that runs Skype.

Finally a real free Windows Vista X64 firewall! Comodo Firewall

Real and free Vista X64 firewalls are rare, the more I am happy to write about the first real full freeware firewall for Windows Vista X64 firewall I know of. The firewall is still yet an alpha release and I have read the forum and some even had to reinstall Vista after using the firewall. If you are brave to try, more info plus screenshots and download link can be found here.

I personally will wait till the final is out and still with the free Vista Firewall Control for the time being.

How to update from 32-bit Windows XP to 64-bit Windows Vista

What to do if you have a 64bit CPU and haven’t got your hands (unlike me) on Windows XP X64 but you want to update it to Windows Vista X64 anyway?

Well, worry not, because it’s really indeed possible!
I have found the manual of how to do it at this place.

Netscape 9 Beta 1 is out!

Netscape 9.0b1 is out and they luckily fixed the bug of the erlier versions that destroyed you Vista (X64 in my case) firewall control!

Netscape 9 is a lot faster and lighter than the earlier Netscape versions and performances so a lot better. It’s also the first being called “Navigator” again and the first to even support Firefox plugins!

It also allows to share sites with a friend on one click! And it is available for Linux and Mac at all, not only Windows like for the previous versions.

German ICQ 6 Q&A in ICQ 6 Blog

The ICQ Team has recently posted a German ICQ 6 Q&A in their ICQ 6 Blog. It can be guessed, that those Q&A are a collection of questions asked in German language by Germans in the ICQ 6 Forum.

The Q&A is quite broken at places which proves again, that none of them is a native German speaker.

They forgot to mention that the ICQ6 version with ability to convert the load of history from icq 5.1 that wasn’t because of migration bug of first ICQ 6 final.

GLS Song

Originally I thought the Packstation Song was already silly, but it seems the competitors never sleep, so here goes GLS who doesn’t put a German song on their English homepge like DHL but an English song on their German homepage.

For those who are not well in English, they can download the lyrics as a PDF file.

Those who want to include the song into their MP3 collection may download it at no charge as an MP3 file!

Tagging is hip and cool!

Tagging is hip and cool this June. Because not just one but two people tagged me and this at the same time!

I have got tagged first by BlogDumps and then by Ike Roelfsema this weekend.

So according to the rules stated I shall tell 5 and 8 facts about me, best those who do not everybody yet know. So, that’s making 13.

1. I don’t drink
2. I don’t smoke.
3. My longest contacts on the net are AJ and Martina.
4. Most of the times, I am looking stupid. You don’t believe this? here is the proof! (Showing me with old DualPhone and headset supplied by the old RTX Dualphone Product Manager Carsten Helmuth).
5. I have a special music taste
6. My fave drink is Ginger Ale.
7. I am a die hard Command & Conquer fan.
8. If you are added to my contact list and marked as “friend” on Flickr you can see some trip pics which the others can’t: http://flickr.com/people/nafcom.
9. I didn’t buy a PC since 2001 (I build them myself).
10. I am entering Mc Donalds only 1 time each year! And this year I have already been there!
11. Receiving paper cards from abroad is one of the best things on Christmas for me.
12. I never sent any parcel to abroad yet. Yet everything I sent to abroad did fit into an envelop, or a letter sized box.
13. The best blog ever is to my opinion The Beconfused Blog by Mr. Dew!

Okay, I have already tagged 6 people above, so here are the other 7:

1) Jaanus Kase, because he is one of the key figures of Skype and he sadly leaves now and Ike takes over.

2) Jean Mercier because his blog is the source for Skype related statistics!

3) Andrew Fisher, because he helped me the most when I was in C64 trouble and needed his opinion or help

4) Manuel Kahana, because he is even geekier than me! =)

5) Rea Maor because he already stated three times that he really really likes my blog

6) Ken Camp because he has the best IP related stuff on this planet on his blog

7) This blog because its owner blogged that seldom, that she already received emails asking whether she is dead or still ok and alive.

Epson Perfection 2480 Photo: Vista X64 drivers work in Windows XP X64!

Important: please read this post first as it contains important information regarding this post which is a continue.

Update: Epson re-did their homepage, they still kept the downloads like described in the below blog entry. This is the new download location. Thanks for Peter in the comments for pointing this out to me!

As we already know the drivers that work in Windows Vista X64 are very well hidden, I wounder what the reason for this is!

Infact I found out today that the same drivers also work in Windows XP X64!
Do not worry about the language of Epson Scan (driver & twain interface) you are about to download as all packages auto detect the language used and its setup routine will select the language to install which fits the most!

So, get the driver & twain interface package (Epson Scan): Epson Scan (at date: 3.0u)

Interesting though is, that the setup routine acts slightly different in Windows XP X64:

It will run and ask you to select the scanner used. Then it will ask for your permission to install the driver but without telling the device name. During the setup proccess, the setup program puts the driver into the driver catalog of Windows XP X64. Then it will ask you to restart Windows.
Having done this, Windows will say it found a new device and prompt you to select whether you want to search for the driver automatically now. And of course you say YES and let Windows do its job!

During this action, Windows will automatically find the driver and install it after another user prompt asking for permission – and VOILLA; the scanner is installed and works!

Here is the proof!:

I don’t understand why Epson hides the drivers people like me requested and asked for since ages! And Epson is by far not the only one! Another example are drivers for HP printers
