Share Google Earth with your friends on Skype

Share Google Earth with your friends on Skype – means realtime travelling the earth with your friend using Skype. This is made possible thanks to a new tool called Unype

(Even Google Earth mentioned it on its blog.

Officially stated are 2000 and XP compatibility but I would not be wondered if it was also working on Windows Vista 🙂

YouTube also has a demonstration video:

Enjoy! 🙂

KX-WP1050 Wi-Fi phone for use with Skype

Yet another Skype wifi phone among the dozens of them. The best things are The phone has 72-hour standby time, 3-hour talk time., 72 hours standby time is not bad and equals the average standby time of Skype wi-fi phones. According to a few manufacturers this is because the Skype JAVA client eats a lot of battery. It also claims to have better audio quality. More info and photo can be found at GadRev Blog.

Skype Prime

Skype released yesterday a new Beta version featuring a new feature called Skype Prime which is accordingly to the Knowledge Base: “…a new way to share answers and advice anytime and anywhere. Skype users can register as call providers and charge other users to call them and get information. The callers pay for the call service with Skype Credit.”

So, this means services that already supported Skype like e.g. BitWine got competition now by Skype’s “Skype Prime” service.

More details about this service can be found on Jaanus’ Skype Blog. (screenshot taken from Skype Numerology. – news from above mentioned Skype Blog).

Opera: Startbar is dead, here comes Speed Dial

Opera completely removed the Startbar in their latest weekly build which is one of the worst moves ever, since Opera users like me first hated this bar and then learned to love it. (I am a statistics nerd and also put some shortcuts there).

Opera Watch asks for opinions.

My opinion is: Kill the new speed dial feature again and let Opera return the Startbar. Infact the speed dial feature currently even has problems displaying certain blogs so it doesn’t work at a reasonable speed and statisfaction

Vista X64 issues

Yes, Windows Vista X64 has issues, but the ones I experienced lately are caused by not-so-nice drivers.

My experience: When I am installing Nvidia’s nforce4 driver, I get a slow system if I use Opera. (100% CPU load). If I use the one before the latest ATI Catalyst & driver package, the ATI Tray icons often won’t show up and the Communications_Helper.exe causes 100% CPU load if when any application is playing sound. With the latest Catalyst, this only happens when using the microphone.

Bluetooth is also an issue: The Windows Vista stack is the same/similar to the one in Windows XP SP2, and does not currently support “expensive” stuff like bluetooth headsets. But BlueSoil is working on Vista version and Widcomm released a Vista update. Links are in the forum thread linked above.

Hope this helps.
Please notice also that Hama let me know that they tied various Bluetooth sticks, and some of them do not even work with the default drivers/profiles (keyboard, mouse comes with Vista I assume – The info regarding Bluetooth and Vista supplied by Microsoft is very thin.
