Rumor: Google to buy Opera, according to Yahoo Europe president
Pierre Chappaz, the former president of Yahoo Europe, claims to have a source, whom he says is generally very well informed, who told him that Google is planning on buying the Opera web browser.
I must say that I find this very hard to believe; after all, Google recently hired some Mozilla/Firefox people, in addition to being an active supporter of the open source browser.
If this in fact were true, it wouldn’t be the first time that Opera has been approached by a major company for a buyout. Back in 1996 Sun Microsystems made an offer to buy Opera for about £9 million ($16.8 million US). A while back an Opera spokeswoman told me that they have been approached by major companies in the past but Opera’s CEO, Jon von Tetzchner, has always declined the offers, no matter the dollar size.
An Opera official outright denied this claim, after I asked about it, saying “Rumors come and go. Google is not buying Opera.”
Perhaps there is a bit of truth to this, maybe Google is collaborating with Opera on some project that we don’t know about yet. Who knows?

Everest Home is no more!

I was in shock when I noticed that after the close of the best PC information tool AIDA32, now its successor Everst Home closes (Everest Home was basicly the same as AIDA32, just new name and diffrent company).

Of course, the download sources for the latest final (2.20) and the latest beta (more recent than the latest final!) all got removed from the homepages I found, except some Chinese ones. So if you want the latest Everest Home Beta (2.20.475 Beta) download it from here. Despite the fact that usually all homepages and downloads from China are very slow the above linked one is the very exceptoin and should load a lot faster than 0.3-1 kb/s! 🙂

Since new hardware won’t be supported by Everest Home with the time passing by of course, seems we have to return to use the freeware version of Sandra which is not bad but not as good as AIDA32 and Everest Home ever were! 🙁

It’s a sad time now!

The ICQ Lies Collection

I recently found out that the The ICQ Lies Collection got updated earlier this year, so do not miss it! It’s the best and most complete collection of all ICQ spam people ever received in the history of ICQ! 🙂

I personally enjoy reading it very much and certainly look forward to its next update! 🙂

Some letters to Santa lost?

Did you know, if you sent letters to Santa early this year (whereever your personal Santa lives) in USA, that it could be, that he never received your letter?

Yep, infact in Detroit on October 26th some mail carrier got robbed.

Postal related crime must be big in USA, since they have a Postal Inspection Service.

Under Who We Are we learn more about them:

Explore a world of career opportunities with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.

U.S. Postal Inspectors are federal law enforcement agents with investigative jurisdiction in all criminal matters involving the integrity and security of the U.S. Postal Service.

Postal Inspectors investigate criminal, civil, and administrative violations of postal-related laws, often using forensics and cutting-edge technologies. It is essential that Postal Inspectors be in sound physical condition and be capable of performing vigorous physical activities on a sustained basis.

Inspectors are required to:
Carry firearms
Make arrests
Provide testimony
Serve subpoenas
Execute search warrants
Prepare comprehensive reports
Pursue and restrain suspects
Protect themselves and others from imminent danger

Inspectors work long and irregular hours, and must be willing to relocate. Competition is intense for the relatively few U.S. Postal Inspector positions. Candidates must successfully complete all phases of the recruitment process and begin their first duty assignment prior to their 37th birthday.

You may be eligible to become a Postal Inspector if you…
Are an American citizen between the ages of 21 and 36½, and interested in an exciting and rewarding career in federal law enforcement
Possess a conferred, four-year degree from an accredited college or university
Have no felony or domestic violence convictions
Are in good physical condition
Write and speak English clearly
Are willing to relocate

Which makes it sound, like a police officer.

Like the poor Postal Inspector is faced with letter robbers that are terrorists armed with bombs, being very much shielded just to find 10 USD in an envelope or reading grandmother’s “hello letters” of his neighbours.

Luckily, I have never seen such people over here.

ICQ’s Christmas Special

Now, ICQ put up some Christmas Special which is exactly like their recent Thanksgiving Special, except a different forum link and a link to different Christmas ecards.

However, the ecards are the same from year 2001-2004! *yawn” and the related link from Santa Deer II to Santa Deer I does not work but shows the main ICQ Friendship Cards page instead!

visual studio & winxp64bit = crash

I actually saw on the beconfused blog, here, that Microsoft released some free Visual Studios. I thought “Great, let’s install it”. As you can see on above’s screenshot, it detects that it’s a 64bit Windows but after downloading, during the installation, the installer causes a blue screen, LOL! Microsoft’s own software doesn’t run on their own OS! 😀

The world went so dark and sad on this day…
