Lately, the new ICQ homepage has been launched, but lately, we users have also to experience a new incompatibily issue with posting in the boards if you use Opera, Macintosh, or other browsers (as you can see in the screenshot above) which proves the statements from the ICQ Team a year ago, in which they write, that you “must have IE 5.5 or higher installed in order for ICQ to work properly. – This includes ICQ’s website.”

Despite this fact, they have choosen later to include a fix for Firefox.

No more ICQ Support? Get active! Complain now!

As we all know, the ICQ Team seems to have decided to give up the ICQ Focus Group

(where people have been able to complain about stuff and make constructive suggestions to improve stuff in the client of ICQ and its services and the ICQ Team read and replied to posts).

Furthermore, since March, 29th, 2006, there is no more ICQ Support either.
It seems to be closed forever!

Result: There is no place now where people can turn to if they need assistance with ICQ problems or to leave their constructive critism!

Since petitions doesn’t seem to cause much when you look around, I ask everybody who wants to fight for ICQ Support and the ICQ Focus Group to write a complaint letter to ICQ in Israel and USA.

Just noticed it by accident: Blogger has intoduced his own automatic “trackback” system called Backlink, I have however decided to keep the old Haloscan Trackback system and just add the blogger backlinks on the right besides it, since I do not want to lose the old trackback references and Blogger’s ssystem works different from Haloscan’s trackback!

So, you as readers and posters can now choose between 2 trackback systems to refer to if you want! 🙂

As assumed earlier, the ICQ Team has problems with servers. Now, they have finally updated the network status to read the following:

“You might experience difficulties using ICQ and viewing the
site. We are working to fix the problem as soon as possible.“

Once in a while (like once every year), it happens that the ICQ login server seems to be down or something.

Well, seems I am not the only one with the problem:

See this Expert Board post.

It seems to only affect some accounts.
Hmm, since ICQ is located in Israel, I think they should have fixed it by tomorrow, because their weekend is Friday & Saturday.

If I knew about this problem, I wouldn’t have restarted my PC. My antivirus prg and sound driver stopped working, that is why I had to restart my PC…

Update: April, 2nd

It worked to connect today till 1:30 PM (EST), since then, it’s down again.
Since I could login yesterday evening and today morning, I guess it’s really some of the ICQ login severs. As you can read in the ICQ Knowledge Base here, they have several of them. Some report that switching the port to 443 or 88 (but 88 won’t like the Xtraz Center too much, it seems) helped temporarily to login.

Also I noticed that the ICQ homepage loads very slow now!

As I noticed recently, the ICQ Team has closed the Ticket Center. One cannot open new tickets but only login to old as you can see above.

I wonder why they did that and whether it will return soon!

Today, a lot of new things can be found on the ICQ homepage! First, they celebrate their 10 Years Anniversary, 2ndly the newer homepage design got its 3rd overhaul!

And 3rdly, they are quite some new featues!:
One of them is a new startpage that looks (as of yet) even well in Opera, and notifies you about new messages in your ICQmail account and new messsages on your page!

Yep, ladies and gentleman! Now, you have got an own page with your profile, blog, friends that sent messages to you. As you can see I can even ask for page messaging authorization to myself! 😀

Plus you know can have a blog on your page! Yes, blogging is in, that even noticed the ICQ Team! 🙂

Also new is the new theme related graphics on the top of each category, ICQ Groups and ICQ Labs now got an extra tab to click and error messages that appeared sometimes when visiting ICQ Groups/Boards disappeared!

There are sure other features which I didn’t find yet on the quick ride! 🙂

Is the ICQ Focus Group dead? They are several reasons to ask this since some worrying development took place:

-Ori got removed as operator
-Udo (Ehud Khenan) renamed his account into “The ICQ Team” and the age to “126”.
-Udo’s last post was on September, 26th, 2005 announcing ICQ Fight!
-The ICQ Focus Group is dominated by spam now! 🙁

This is a very bad development and I hope the ICQ Team will re-consider this step and re-etablish it!

In the end of 2005, I had sent an email to LeadTek asking for producing TV USB 2 64bit drivers, but unfortunately I only got this reply:

“Dear Sir,

Sorry for your bad experience.

We are really want to make it to run under Windows 64 bit os.
But the chipset manufuacturer stop to release 64bit driver for it.
We are very sorry for your inconvenient.

So I decided to email the chipset manufactor (eMPIA) and I really got a reply from them:

“Hello,

Allow me to give you some background about your question.

Empia is a company supply chip to manufactures, like Leadtek…..others. and Leadtek is one of our good customer.

We do support 64 bit driver since half years ago. however. Every manufacture has their own schedule and reason to determine whether they shall and when they shall adopt 64 bit driver.

1. it need to have 64 bit application software to go with the 64 bit driver. Only 64 bit driver does not give you any advantage.

Attached is our generic 64 bit driver. (64 bit driver is under AMD64 folder). but most likely. it will not work with your TV card which has EM2800 inside. (some modification need to be done by manufacture themself.) It will be best for you to continue check with Leadtek for 64 bit upgrade.

After forwarding this reply to LeadTek Taiwan, they obviously changed their mind as I received this:

“Dear Joerg,

Our developers are co-working with EMPIA about the 64bit driver.
Thanks for your informations.
If any news release we will contact with you.

And the day before yesterday, I finally received this:

“Dear Joerg,

Could you support us tv box warranty number? You can find it behind tv box.
We have to ensure which model of yours.
