I found an interesting video today. It’s about the fact that everything you write online is saved and cached forever in huge internet archives like e.g. at The WayBack Machine!
So: Think before you post!
It’s the version about the hacked HD-DVD code.

R.I.P my dear SPH101, which died a scary death of hardware failure and the unsuccessful try to recover it re-applying the firmware. (Which caused the phone to not boot up anymore after switching it on again).
Luckily, Amazon took it back without a hassle (thanks!) and transfered my money back.
For this I bought the Belkin Skype wi-fi phone which hears on the gay name “F1PP000GN-SK“!
It is almost the same hardware like the WSKP100 from SMC except one supports Boingo and the other one Fon.
At least my Belkin one seems to have still the echo issue a bit (but I am working on that with Belkin support now which seems to be very skilled and friendly and helpful (at least the one from Germany!).
But even then I still can use a headset with it! Many asked which headset it supports! The one suppported is Sennheiser MM30.
So the SPH101 category is dead now! Long life to the F1PP000GN-SK one! 🙂
Sennheiser started to officially support Skype phones so they will be put into their selector they have told me on Skype just 10 mins ago

“What’s up with this crappy blog?”, may ask one or another regular reader of my blog, seeling among “Contributors” Mr. Dew. No, we are not siblings or so =)
He just offered me to pimp my blog’s template.
I would say we are some kind of blogging pals or so. It turns out I am the commenter number one on his blog and he comments the most on mine, too.
Actually, I hope that after his military service we will speak a bit more by IM again.
Anyways, if you find the blog looks strange at times, it’s not my fault this time! =)

Yesterday, I spent 2 hours getting the RealTek drivers updated and to work and I have fixed all the issues, except the one connected with Skype video.
I was confronted with tons of error messages while uninstalling the old drivers and reinstalling the new drivers but in the end I have figured it out!
Now even the RealTek Sound Manager (also can be found as Control Panel plugin) doesn’t crash anymore. I had to figure also out, that the drivers from Windows Update which Vista downloaded and installed automatically were from 2005!
UPDATE: The realtek audio driver will help you to solve your problems related to the realtek driver. The realtek audio driver will help you if you have any kind of problems like corrupted or missing files.

Technorati, once of the coolest things on this planet, with bad customer support has once again done some changes, most notably the links to your blog and the number of blogs are no longer mentioned as seperate numbers but are indicated as 1 number called “Authority”. See how it looks now:
And this is how it looked before:
This has worsen the thing, as I love detailed stats! 🙁
The Technorati Blog has no post about this change yet. As I said: A pity, but fortunately there is still that one from Purple Moggy! 🙂
Despite the fact of no official announcement yet, more info about this change at Technorati, can be found at the soistdas.company and the Pronet Advertising blogs

The ICQ Team released today ICQ 6 Build #5354. A changelog has not been published, yet.
Somebody called “Murb” released a Browser Link Patch, so the URLs open in the OS’ default browser and no longer only in IE7.
Sad ICQ, that somebody else had to fix the bug despite the fact you knew about this bug since 1st Preview version.

Technorati tries again to imptove their support. This time they opened a forum.
Probably their plan is to drag more users to the forums and asking for help for their problems instead of contacting them directly.
Which is actually a good idea. Theit try to help me with a wrongly indexed post with my “Blogger in Beta” blog (this blog here just transformed to blogger in beta when it was still in beta) ended up in a “we don’t know” disaster and then just stopping to answer me.
Technorati tries hard to be nice but they are too much of a huge company and too few people behind to get the millions of user under control.

Now the internet has some interesting places for Q&As for ICQ 6.
The ICQ Team released some offical Q&As at this place.
The most interesting facts:
“Why have you removed ICQ 5.1 features from ICQ 6?
We’ve been rewriting all of our features from scratch. Think of it as reinventing your instant messaging experience. Gone are the separate programs for chat, making a call, and using video. We’ve brought it all together into one package, where navigation is simple and organized
——–
Which features were improved?
Some of our features were improved to fit within our new layout, others were written from scratch.
New, improved and innovative features in ICQ 6 include:
Quick IM – letting the user send messages to contacts without opening a message window.
Easy message access – simple navigation between incoming messages.
Tabbed conversations – easy switch between ongoing conversations.
History – new design to search history of messages, files, calls etc.
Search – easy-to-use search through the Contact List, on the ICQ site, and on the web.
File sharing – quicker, safer and with auto accept of files from contacts plus option to close window while transferring files.
ICQ 6 now support up to 1000 friends in your Contact List.
Soundtrack – an all new soundtrack composed exclusively for ICQ by the progressive psy-trance duo Infected Mushroom.——
Any new stuff planned in the future?
New updates are planned to be released througout the year. One of the aspects in future updates that we would like to focus on is user involvement, which is essential to the ICQ 6 experience. For example ICQ is looking into ways to enable users to create their own ICQ Xtraz features or languge packages. ICQ 6 updates are also planned to include new packages of sounds, emoticons, devils and tZers that can be easily downloaded and shared. Updates are also planned to include our own web 2.0 services, such as ICQ Pictures, ICQ Videos and a new ICQ Mail service.”
The most interesting feature is for sure the new limit of 1000 contacts in total! (remember: in past this limit was 600 contacts in total!)
They do not say whether the limit of 250 people per group has been exceeded, aswell!
The second intersting list is the list ofKnown problems and bugs (ICQ6), the list answers a lot of questions the official ICQ 6 Q&A doesn’t answer.
As I understood it, his forum is also a place for support. Which is a great idea considering that ICQ has No support anymore.
Furthermore, please notice my statement regarding the message history migration problems here.

www.skype-watch.com has been put down by Jan Geirnaert because he received a letter by Skype lawyers asking him to do so. They gave him a slap on his hands for using “Skype” inside his blog’s URL. Just a question of time maybe till others will receive similar emails?
His blog is now accessable at http://www.webtown.typepad.com/.
A quote of the email he received can be read at this post.
A bit weird if you think about it noticing that other IM/voice companies often do not do it but like when people do -easy to find- promotion for their service. Maybe it was becaue he is always very critical and caring about topics like security.
AOL was once in a fight for www.icqplus.org, because it was an appplication that allowed ICQ skinning (a function which the ICQ Team wanted to implement themselves and finally did so in ICQ2003b).
(first source: here. second source and final decision: click). But that was 2001. Since end of 2003 till 2006, the domain www.icqplus.org leads to ICQ’s homepage.
