ICQ 6 Preview Questions & Answers!

The ICQ Team released something new regarding their ICQ 6 Preview release:

The ICQ 6 Preview Questions and Answers. They are very interesting so read them.

The most interesting ones:

“Why the limited registration of users?
Since we are still in the early stages of development of our new client, we only wanted to allow a limited amount of users a look at how a product takes shape.

How can I get the ICQ 6 Preview Version?
We will gradually increase the number of users with time, so we can get an even bigger feel of what our users are looking for. Check out this site on a regular basis to see if new downloads are available.

When will the actual version, ICQ 6.0, be released?
We’re aiming for a Spring 2007 release. Stay tuned for updates.“

Mail collecting boxes, Postal and Parcel Services

I write a lot about customer support, companies and services and my experiences.

Well, I am not the only one doing this. Another person that triggered my attention is Matt Rudoff. He experienced that the mail collecting box in his area just vanished. He wrote about his continious fight on getting this – for his area – very important mail collecting box back and he succeeded!

Exactly the same thing happened to me down the street, in summer 2005.

The reason for this is the rationalization program “Star” which our Postal Service started end of year 2002, removing thousands of mail collecting boxes in areas which have “low” letter traffic and doing other things to save money.

Well, in 2006, the mail collecting box returned, just over the road. Probably not because of people like Matt, but because of an alternative Postal Service “Morning Post Letter Service” starting to offer their letter delivery service down the street.

The best thing is, letters sent to locations in the postcode areas 68xxx and 69xxx
are automatically sent as opening registered mail. And even if you send it to other places, they do not lose your letters!
I have sent thousands of letters since 1998 using our Postal Service and quite a few of them never ever arrived nor returned to sender! (I still have that theory, that some postmen eat paper for breakfast).

Last week, even our Parcel Service got competition (there are others already, but they are too far for me to easily get there), also down the street: GLS, who cost a few bucks less than DHL, are faster in delivery, and also offering Track & Trace.

Better service for less money, what else would I want? =)

Another review of Nafcom’s Crap Blog

2006 seems to be the year of reviews to me! =)

After the BlogDumps review and my handle story making it Best Line Of The Day, my blog has been reviewed again (They wrote to me they have got inspired by my blog) this time here.

The review quotes the posts they like the best and they seem to think that my blog is one of the class info source for tech info from the view of an end user. (customer).

So please read it, it’s a nice to read review. I want to thank all my readership and fans, I am glad that there are quite some people out there that enjoy what I do! 🙂

ICQ’s Slide-A-Lama on mobiles

A Czech company will release a mobile version of the ICQ Xtra game Slide-A-Lama which is a real fun multiplayer game! The online version is meant to be only single player for the start (while the ICQ version is multiplayer only”. Interesting is that Harel Efraim, Product Manager, ICQ speaks about this product.

The ICQ Xtraz games are great, but I still prefer my old mobile from 1999 😛

ICQ Team speaking about ICQ 6 design & Dor Elliot

In today’s update of the ICQ 6 Blog, the creative team spoke about the design – one which was created by a known Israeli – a graphician named Dor Elliot:

[…]Dor, a young, talented professional and a friend, died of cancer last week (Nov. 25th) and wasn’t able to see his work completed. We would like to dedicate this version of ICQ 6 to him.

RIP

Skype Germany “moves” to London

Skype Germany HQ is no more and. This I got told by Skype Germany today in an email addressed to me:

Skype recentralizes marketing in London
November 28, 2006 07:18 AM

Skype moved marketing functions from countries back to London in a reorganization announced yesterday. About 40 of the 516 people working at Skype worldwide are affected, 26 of those shifting roles or locations and 14 who are leaving or who have yet to find another job at Skype or another eBay company.

Skype doubled its headcount this year, hiring 298 people since 1 January. Henry Gomez, Skype’s global marketing officer, told Skype Journal the recentralization of marketing will improve message clarity, help Skype marketing move more quickly, and engage more marketing personnel in product decisions.

The 40 people affected by the reorganization were from across the company, touching all regions and departments. Skype’s job site lists 17 vacancies: 8 in Tallinn, Estonia (coolest job ad word of the month: “anechoic”); 7 in London, 1 in the United States; and two elsewhere in Europe.

In separate moves, Saul Klein, former marketing executive, left Skype but continues to consult on eCommerce and advanced projects and can still be seen in the Skype London corridors. James Bilefield, former business development director and general manager for Europe, also left the company.

This is somehow such a pity! 🙁
