Before I start this post, let me assure you that I have reported the problems (bugs) to both, Logitech and Joost over a year ago and sent an update to them. Joost didn’t reply and Logitech replied they will send it to the developers but it most likely won’t be fixed as there is no interest from the usership to fix what Logitech/Joost broke over a year ago.

The issue is that the media keys (play, next, previus, play, etc) of Logitech keyboards no longer work in Joost for Windows. Well, it used to work but doesn’t anymore.

But this is not important anymore as Joost moved to a browser plugin instead, the client for Windows is no longer available for download and also the blog is down with the error “forbidden”.

Is Joost about to die? I seriously hope not!

Logitech released recently a new Logitech QuickCam software which is supposed to fix a lot of issues with auto focus for HQ cameras of logitech, Skype issues, etc.

One thing that annoys me always – I guess you know it as a reader of my blog – is removed features that were useful. Logitech did this here by removing echo cancellation because they say it’s no longer needed. as “most instant messanger” have already have echo cancellation.

Well, what if you use some software that relied on this feature? Well, then you are doomed….

Skype got a lot of complaints regarding their new graphical user interface, so they had to re-think it and they did…. they added an option to go back to classical view.

I am pretty much sure, most, especially old users or users like from the first day like myself, will not use the new “hip” huge Skype 4 view but the classic one instead which means all the redesign the Skype team did was a …. flush down the toilet action.

Hi everybody,

this is a message to everybody who asked me why I am on and off and wrote me “where are you?” messages on Skype/ICQ. Why is my blog no longer updated and why my forum got not spam cleaned and re-opened, etc and skype calls sound like shit if it works

Reason is: My cable internet (i.e. the ISP) sucks!

Since over 6 weeks now, my internet and phone is down almost daily between 9:30 PM and 11:30 PM. Especially great when I have late shift so I come home and everything is… dead!

I called them almost daily complaining. Shortly before my trip to Bulgaria they said they will fix it, then it worked for 2 nights just to find out again that after my return to Germany, the problem re-appeared!

They first meassured a noise once on my cable TV line and thought that’s causing the problem (on the way to them to the house in which I live there are 8 other clients using the line).

Tonight they told me on the hotline they found out the line is overloaded (that’s the disadvantage of cable internet over DSL internet: cable TV lines are a shared medium)
From the night of Friday to Saturday they will build up a second downstream line to cope with the capacity shortcommings.

I think I have the worst ISP on the whole planet!
If there was any other cable TV provider for my area (that also has similar speed for similar price) I guess I would switch.

I sorry I can catch up next week’s weekend when I have 4 days off.

Trust doesn’t support Windows XP X64 with drivers. So doesn’t their 5.1 Surround USB Headset: “HS-6200”.

But similar to the Epson Perfection 2480 Photo case, the Windows Vista X64 drivers work for Windows XP X64!

Just download the Windows Vista X64 drivers and install them in Windows XP X64. The installation of the control panel applet won’t work but the driver will!

So you are stuck with the drivers’ default settings which are: Input mode: 2 Channels, Output mode: 6 Channels (Speakers) so the bass boost will work!

Please notice that the driver caused quite some system load for me in Windows XP X64 so otherwise fluent Sega Rally turned into a non-fluent experience.

The headset is based on C-Media’s CM106 sound chip. The CM106 sound chip is known for causing small white noise when the micro is not deativated in Windows’ audio device’s settings. (But it’s not too bad I think, I never bothered!).

You may also C-Media’s own drivers but they won’t support the bass boost! (And the control panel of this release doesn’t work eitzher!

The ICQ Team just released ICQ 6.5 now. New thing is Open Xtraz means people can create their own xtraz for ICQ!##

A thing that was promised since years but it never came!

ICQ 6.5 Beta looks exactly like ICQ 6 so no need to provide new screenshots

Also the functionality of downloading them doesn’t work for me (neithe in Opera nor in IE7 but in both cases the browser would offer you to start the app in ICQ 6.5 but nothing happenes.

Also the ICQ Gallery page has broken pics for me.

Probabl.y the thing is buggy like hell yet or overloaded/not completed!

September, 1st (so that’s today) is a sad and dark day for many in the Skype community! As Skype announced, SkypeCasts is no more!

Effective from now on, SkypeCasts is down.

Skype even replied to the comments on the above linked announcement.

Skype is definately going into the wrong direction. – I hope they will notice this before it’s too late!

It will be sad to see Skype going downhill being a day-1 user of Skype!

According to Skype-News.com this was done to be more buisiness like:

“In order to focus its business more, Skype also just announced that it will disable Skypecasts, Skype’s ability to broadcast to a large group of listeners, effective September 1st.”

Not a nice reasoning if you ask me.

At least Dan York wrote something nice about how Skype changed the way to think about communication!

I have complained very often in past that the technical skill and the knowledge about their own product of the the Technical Support Guys is often extremely questionably.

I have been stuffed with many false information just to figure out they had no idea what they are talking about. Even being very polite and always keeping their temper isn’t really helping the users.

Granted, they released a firmware update that fixes a lot of bugs but unfortunately it appears they revised the update and re-uploaded it just to figure out it’s broken now as the device will say you already have the latest update and will just not update.

They have removed it from the product page but kept it on the grouped products download page.

Latest firmware is 1.4.152.2018 from Dec 06, 2007 and it fixes a lot of bugs and issues.

Please contact me and I will send you the WOKRING update for your Ipevo SOLO!

I have been told that the Ipevo guys read my blog, so I would appreciate a feedback from Ipevo!
