Blog exchanges

I am late I know, but all the blog exchanges I was a member of went down:

1) The Crush Blog Exchange turned into Crushed Exchange:

What was originally The Blog Exchange has now become the Crushed Exchange. Since I had a problem with the previous database I decided to turn this exchange around and allow any kind of site to be a part of it. Whether you have a blog, fansite, forum, anything goes! As long as you are able to include the exchange code somewhere visible on your site, you can join!

Additionally to this, its administrator did not reply to emails since ages. Well, maybe she is mad at me for whatever reason.

2) BlogExchange.net closed down. As written on its administrator’s blog:

What happened to the banner exchange?
Unfortunately – I did not have time to maintain this project. I’m in my final semester (or almost final) of a PhD program, and I maintain two other very time intensive websites that are related to my area of expertise (iateapie.net and foodissues.org). Rather than sell this domain, I decided to keep the button generator section of the website and make it the focus. So welcome to the relaunch.

I want to thank Tanya Patrice for replying and helping me always! πŸ™‚

I will look out for new blog exchanges and add them soon to my sidepanel!

Edit: Unfortunately I found none, so for now only my Blog Snappy Exchange will be on my blog’s sitepanel.

If you run or know a blog exchange service, please contact me!

My categories work again!

Holy, crap my blog categories work again!

For a few days it was broken, due to a bug since Technorati’s relaunch.

Unfortunately despite the fact of promising, they are still terribly slow!

I had to call them and forward my email to Janice Myint to finally receive a reply and get it fixed!

She apologized for the delay, though! Thanks for the fix! πŸ™‚

New Skype 2.6 Preview released (Windows)

Skype has released version 2.6.0.44. The most significant news are that audio libraries could changed and so some things could stop working (hardware). (But at least my DualPhone still works πŸ™‚ ) and that now you can find a tab within Skype for the Skypecasts!

See more at the complete changelog! Bugs can be reported here.

A very good preview, dear Skype Team!

DualPhone Experiences – Part 2

Nafcom’s Crap Blog!: DualPhone Experiences. And this now is part 2!

They have tpday released anew firmware which doesn’t say much in the changelog, but it seems to fix/improve the echo problem on PSTN calls.

Suite update has jumped from V2.08 to V2.18 and firmware update for base and handset from V0148 to V0151

The most recognizeable change is, that you now get displayed when the caller ID from an incoming call got disabled. (External call: Private)

Generally I have found out how the process works:

this is basicly what you do/what happens when you do a software/firmware update:

You download the latest dualphone suite package.
you disable any firewall
Place the handset in the base!
you double click the exe file and choose destination folder (auto-selected when you update)
——-
The base firmware gets earesed then written then checked (the base’s “charging” LED is flashing, the handset displays “Out of order”).
The suite status display counts down the required remaining battery pack loading time so the handset firmware can get updated
After that, the fimware gets ereased, written, veryfied again. (The handset displays “Updating, please wait”).
Last but not least, the homepage writes, you have to keep the handset 15 minutes after that in the base, this is because the handset, base and the suite have to syncronize, I guess (a * is flashing in the handset display while this happens).

And things are done.

So, it’s basicly just 4 steps to do.

They made it quite fool-proof in the latest version, means if you do not place the handset in the base it will say “put in base!”

There is however something I worry about, it’s this Skype forum thread discussing RTX Dualphones battery pack dying after 9 months.

I hope this won’t happen to me, and if, then I will want a warranty replacement! πŸ™‚

Why it’s good to have no credit card

Sometimes, it’s really very good to have no credit card at all. And it’s also interesting to see how much inactive the places – where you report crime to – are on weekends.

Kaspersky Lab wrote a story about trying to shut down a website that contained credit card information on a Friday afternoon and how much they failed first but succeeded finally! πŸ™‚

The story can be read in their blog.

AOL publishes 500k User Queries Sampled Over 3 Months

ISPs can be stupid, and sometimes among those you can find AOL.
Last weekend, they had the “brilliant” idea, to publish search queries with user ID replaced by a number, like this:

The data set includes {UserID, Query, QueryTime, ClickedRank, DestinationDomainUrl}.

Fortunately they took it down right after, but unfortunately a lot of people managed to download it and spread it now. I am glad that I am no AOL customer anymore. πŸ™‚

And no, this is no fake – the Google Cache still has the site (but without the download of course).
